Head

Deciding factor: Item Bonuses

The head piece has only a few options for support and survivability.

Supportive

Head Piece - Supportive
Notes

☆☆

The Turban is one of the few options for the full supportive route. However, its bonus is not really great: +5% Deflect Severity on daily power use is barely active and unreliable, thus not of much use. The pull of the mobs is one of its best features. But again if you jump into the mobs and they are closer than 15 feet then they will be pulled so hard that they end up 10 feet away from you again. So it needs some practice on how to use it.

For the curious people: We know that enemies Accuracy is 0%, thus the Accuracy would go negative after subtracting -2.5%. Negative values are no problem and are taken into account for us in the formula!

Defensive

The last mods brought kind a few new were already the defensive options! However, Manticore's Mane Bite is still one of the best choices to take. Because of this, I would recommend taking a glance at the offensive oriented headpieces!

Notes

☆☆☆ One Recommended Choice

One of the best head pieces. 4% Stamina Regeneration and 8% Awareness. Great defensive choice.

TODO: What happens on death? Do the stacks disappear and cannot be restacked duringthe fight? requires test once I have it.

☆☆

The second best defensive choice is coming from the advanced version! 4% Stamina Regeneration and 6% Awareness. Great defensive choice.

☆☆

Still a good head piece. 6% Stamina Regeneration and 4% Awareness. Good defensive choice.

TODO: What happens on death? Do the stacks disappear and cannot be restacked duringthe fight? requires test once I have it.

Weaker version of Ultraviolet Elven Armor. Use it maybe as a temporary solution or use other head pieces. Source: The Infernal Citadel (Advanced)

Starter Item (as long as Mountain of Flame is open to all)

A starter item. Easy to get as long as Mountain of Flame is not IL restricted. Otherwise pretty useless.

Starter Item

A starter helm. Easy to get as long as Windspace is not IL restricted. Otherwise pretty useless.

Starter Item

A beginner's helm. Easy to get as long as Windspace is not IL restricted. Otherwise underwhelming. Can be used to do some fun high Incoming Healing Builds.

Starter Item The new beginner item. Especially useful for dragon hunts to get the better Rugged Sallet helm. Not recommended for endgame.

Mastercraft Item. An old and nowadays underwhelming defensive choice. Also quite pricey.

Not recommended.

Bad choice

If you can get this item, then you can also geat the Depthforged Helm! Should be avoided on Fighter Tank.

Not recommended.

Bad choice

A bad choice. Neither is Deflect a good trigger nor is Stamina regeneration (10% only) a good bonus.

Not recommended.

Offensive

Head Piece - Offensive
Notes

☆☆☆ One Recommended Choice

The recommended dragon hunts helm featuring the Manticore’s Mane Bite!

This bonus deals high damage and threat on each daily use. Makes holding aggro in bursts way easier! The bonus can be gained from headpieces or by some rings (The Living Silver Fern or Tanners Ring).

☆☆ Old Alternative: Mane of the Manticore

Not recommended due to loss of 1-2k+ IL.

Source: Omu hunts - Rasalas (Tier 2)

☆☆

Lesser version of Manticore's Mane Bite. Great in combination with Manticore's Mane Bite on a ring to gain little more threat consistently. The damage is quite low, and worse to counter bursts than Manticore’s Mane Bite. It can be used to get Threat on archers in scaled content. Otherwise not recommendable. I personally prefer some more stats from a ring instead.

☆☆ Starter Item

Lesser version of Enchanted Bregan D'aerthe Provoker's Helm.

Source: Menzoberranzan Campaign Store

☆☆

Both provide +100% (on top of 1500%) Threat. Thus, without any further buffs to threat, these provide only a 4-6.66% buff to the overall threat generated. Creates on average more threat than +10% CA choices. When in choice with Manticore’s Mane Bite, these are not recommended as they cannot help with threat generation in artifact bursts.

Good offensive item for scaled Underdark content.

Good offensive alternative for Vault of Stars. Even great defensive capabilities considering IL and Critical Avoidance.

Good offensive item for scaled Undermountain content like LoMM. Loses against the Mighty Helm and Tactful Cap in unscaled ToMM.

☆ An interesting offensive choice with 10% Combat Advantage. I still prefer proc gear, but this is an offensive alternative.

☆ An interesting offensive choice with 8% Combat Advantage. Inferior to the Delzoun Cap if Power and Combat Advantage are well below the cap!

Two other great offensive alternatives for bosses:

Mighty helm: +7% CA

Tactful Cap: +7% Power

Not recommended for MToS and Gzemnid’s reliquary, because multiple enemies are quite frequent there.
